Tic Tac Toe is an easy, engaging game for kids of all ages. It teaches memory, fair play, eye hand coordination, and spatial relationships, so it should really be part of your outdoor play and learning experiences.

Our version of this Tic Tac Toe is unique, because you can provide us with any two symbols to replace the X’s and O’s, and thus make this game unique to you and the kids. For instance, we just did one for a school that loves its local chipmunks and sycamore trees, so we etched chipmunks and sycamore tree leaves into the blocks!

This game's universality across diverse ancient societies hints at its intriguing yet straightforward nature, a game that transitioned from carved stones to modern paper. Historians found that it wasn't limited to one culture:

Ancient Egypt
In Ancient Egypt, evidence of a similar game has been found, carved meticulously into temple roofing tiles dating from around 1300 BC. The Romans named the game “Seega,” and used pebbles and stones as game pieces. The ancient Egyptians can be credited with laying the foundation for the origins of Tic-Tac-Toe.

Roman Empire
The Romans had their own rendition named "Terni Lapilli". Unlike the familiar Xs and Os, they incorporated distinct symbols, with the game grid etched onto public monuments. The game's grid markings have been found chalked all over Rome.

Ancient India
Ancient India’s version was called “Pada;” the objective was to achieve a specific pattern using shells or tiny stones.

The intriguing yet straightforward nature of this very simple game is why it spread across diverse ancient societies, and why it continues today. Its timeless nature lies in its simplicity and universal charm. No language barriers, no complex tools, just a simple grid and basic symbols, ensuring its popularity across all ages.

There are 765 different positions, and 26,830 possible games.

Made with beautiful cedar wood, this unit is easy to install. It measures 39” wide with a minimum height of 38”, but we recommend 48” to the middle of the top row of blocks. However, the legs are long, so you can mount this at whatever height makes sense for the kids using it.
