The Tree Log Sculpture is one of those unique elements that keeps on giving!
There are three differently-sized logs at different angles in the air and at different heights off the ground (48”, 36”, 24”), so there are many creative ways this sculpture can be used. There is also the option of changing the angles of the logs.
And get this: you could get 2 of these so you have 6 logs, so you could then make a star shape with the logs starting from a center point either on the ground or up in the air. For instance, if the center point for the 6 logs was on the ground, then the other end of each log could be set at whatever height off the ground you want!!!
Now THAT is pretty neat!! :)) And what a great climbing element that would be!!!
There is no way to predict exactly what your Sculpture will look like, as every single tree has different diameters. There will still be knots, former branch locations, and other individual characteristics, but we assure you that this is a beautiful looking product, and that you and your children (no matter what their age!!) will be very happy with it!!!
We can strip the bark off the log and then treat it to last longer, or leave the bark on and just treat the ends. Up to you
So let’s talk about fall zones. Depending on lots of things, you may or may not “need” a fall zone. Technically, this is a climber, and climbers typically need a fall zone under them and then 6’ out from their perimeters, all the way around.
However, because there are no standing surfaces on this element (defined as a 2” square, flat surface within 30º of horizontal) because the trunk is pretty much round, you may not be “required” to have one -- or you could certainly present that argument.
Frankly, we think the playground safety gurus have gone way overboard in mandating safety requirements that remove every bit of risk from playgrounds (and they agree that they have gone overboard, by the way), so that kids grow up not knowing how to manage risk!
So we think that you might want to install this Fallen Tree Sculpture without a fall zone, and let the kids play on it for a while. Then make a decision based on whether you think the few, fun risks encountered by the children will add to their sense of self, and help them learn more about managing their bodies in space.
The logs are obviously heavy, so you’ll need either a piece of equipment or lots of strong people to get the whole sculpture into place. The base of the support system is embedded underground in concrete, which does not come with the kit, and then the logs rest in cradles so you can actually adjust the heights during installation.
By the way, we have sometimes seen these referred to as Sideways Trees or Fallen Trees, but our price is far, far less expensive!!
This is a unique item with which everyone will be engaged, regardless of their age!!
Comes with a complete set of installation instructions and all hardware
