Tug Rope, also known as tug-of-war and rope pulling, has very ancient origins going as far back as the eighth century BC. The sport was practiced in ancient Greece, Egypt, and China two train warriors, as a game of strength, for building strength, and to test the strength and endurance.

In 1800, seafaring men were required to tug on lines to adjust sails while ships were underway and in battle, so help pulling was an excellent training exercise.

There are actually rope tugging clubs in many countries, with both men and women participating. As a matter of fact, the sport was part of the Olympic Games from 1900 until 1920, and is still part of the World Games. Both England and Scotland have Tug of War Associations, and the exercise was also part of the TV series Battle of the Network Stars.

This sport is played in almost every country in the world, so why wouldn’t you play it at home or at school as a teambuilding exercise, group exercise, collaborative experience, strength building activity, and so on?
