Drums, used for communication, rituals, religious ceremonies, and music, turned up in excavations in Mesopotamia dating to 3000 BC, in Peruvian cave drawings of drums in various aspects of communal life, and in the Native American Indians culture, which used gourd and wooden constructed drums for their rituals and ceremonies.
Drums are now also used in bands and orchestras to keep time, play melodies, and make sound effects, all of which may be done by children on your playground.
Children can feel the deep, resonant sounds produced by our Bass Drums right through their bodies, which can be very therapeutic, mesmerizing, and calming.
Striking the drum with different objects (nothing sharp, please!) and intensities will produce very different sounds, which makes this outdoor playground instrument very versatile.
If you bring several of our struck instruments onto your playground, you will hear a wonderful variety of musical sounds, and encourage children to be more in tune with the rhythms of nature.
Our children’s Bass Drums are simply and beautifully designed; the heads are made of durable, technically advanced film which are easily (and inexpensively) replaced if damaged.
Bass Drums can be purchased with two drum heads (12” and 16”), or with four drum heads (two 12” and two 16”) so more kids can play at one time!
Comes with 2 (2 drum) or 4 mallets (4 drum) that are stored right in the drum.
The drums come with a post to be mounted in the ground. However, a beautiful set of legs is available for either drum so that it can be free-standing! These can be brought inside, of course, making them even more versatile!
Instructions included. Made so drums can be brought inside when temperatures drop below freezing (as drum head may be sensitive to cold), or during long periods of inclement weather. Please note that as with any wooden product, these drums need to be cared for on a regular basis, which includes treating the wood with child friendly preservative (sold in our store) at least twice a year.
